Diamond Market Report Dec 1st

Welcome back to the Diamonds Hatton Garden blog where we bring you the latest from our Hatton Garden jewellers. When looking for loose diamonds for diamond engagement rings, diamond tennis bracelets or a pair of beautiful diamond earrings it is important to understand how the global diamond market influences the retail price. We continue with our ongoing series, paused for a few months, and look into the latest developments within the diamond industry and share our insights. Our weekly report examines the global diamond market for both loose white diamonds and loose fancy coloured diamonds.

With a slow week there seems to be greater stabilisation in certain shapes and categories as smalls seem to be outperforming larger goods. With high inventory and exciting coverage of big auctions, the market is buoyant ahead of what is expected to be a busy Christmas period.

Fashion is driving the demand for elongated Ovals, Emeralds and Radiants offering excellent quality and value whilst goods with medium and short ratios are noticeably weaker and declining in value. In particular, diamonds of 1.25 ct. and larger, sizes as well as colours F-J and clarities VS-SI remain popular and stable. Once again, we see a market that is highly educated and looking for good quality loose white diamonds.

In the United States there is a mixed report showing stable demand. The demand for larger stones, more popular in the US than in other markets historically speaking, sees sizes of 5ct and above popular.

Back in Europe and in Belgium, the market is a bit quieter than usual. However, nice fancy shapes are selling well such as pears, ovals and marquises. Once more, top-quality smaller stones are providing excellent value and remain popular amongst consumers.

In Israel the sentiment is echoed as buyers are generally being more selective in their choices and are holding out for top-quality goods. We see this over in India and in particular, there is renewed interest in 0.30 ct., D-F, IF-VVS, 3X (none) categories especially from Hong Kong. Elsewhere in Hong Kong there is improving consumer spending as the holidays approach and the local economy rebounds following on from lockdowns and restrictions in China.
