Diamond Market report 05/08/2021.

Welcome back to the Diamonds Hatton Garden blog where we bring you the latest from our Hatton Garden jewellers. When looking for loose diamonds for diamond engagement rings, diamond tennis bracelets or a pair of beautiful diamond earrings it is important to understand how the global diamond market influences the retail price. We continue with our ongoing series and look into the latest developments within the diamond industry and share our insights. Our weekly report examines the global diamond market for both loose white diamonds and loose fancy coloured diamonds.

Today’s diamond market report is shorter than our previous reports as, traditionally, the summer season is always quieter. Coupled with uncertainty over the Covid-19 Delta variant there is a lull in the market. However, for those looking to buy loose white diamonds this can be fruitful as prices continue to be lower than prior to the CoronaVirus pandemic. Dealers in the US are preparing for the Vegas show (one of the largest jewellery shows in the world) however, with ongoing travel restrictions we expect that there will be a  limited international presence.

The US continues to support the market and our contacts have reported that there are steady orders and good memo sell-through. Polished prices firm across the US and world, despite increase in inventory.

As the year quickly moves on, there are rising expectations for the holiday season as globally retailers and producers look forward to a strong end of year. The rough market price, the price which is one of the factors in polished diamond prices, remains robust as various producers begin to step up their production.

The fancy shaped diamond market, a fancy shape being any shape other than a round brilliant, remains robust. Prices are  firming across most sizes and categories amid shortages and growing fancy demand – this demand has been sustained over the last two years showing how consumers are looking for better value and more unique shapes. Diamonds Hatton Garden are offering a wider selection of loose diamonds  as, like with other markets, our clients continue to seek alternative shapes. Our recent series of blogs focuses on the history of different diamond shapes and offers our expert advice on how to choose the best shape for you. Read more about the history of the heart shape, pear cut, marquise shape, oval shape and princess shape
