Welcome back to the Diamonds Hatton Garden Blog where we bring you the latest from our jewellery workshop, guides to the industry and updates from our Hatton Garden jewellers. Based in the heart of the UK jewellery industry, our family run business have had the pleasure of working in one of the most unique and exciting areas of London for decades. Home to diamond dealers, setters and an array of businesses Hatton Garden truly is a place like no other. In today’s blog we speak with Creative Awards, designers and producers of bespoke trophies for the UK’s biggest events.
Jack, thank you for taking the time to speak with us. Tell us about the business.
Creative Awards was founded by my dad over 40 years ago. Interestingly, he, too, once was in the jewellery industry and he gained his apprenticeship in engraving. Over the years he saw a demand for trophies and started Creative Awards many moons ago. Since then we have proudly grown into the UK’s oldest and biggest custom made awards designer working with some of the biggest names on events.
What is your favourite trophy?
It’s an interesting question. Each piece to me is something I kind of become attached too as we design the works in house and produce them in our workshop. One of my favourite awards from recent years is the IAAF Trophy that was awarded to the top athletes in Monaco and won by Eliud Kipchoge last year for his amazing marathon time of 2:01:39. The piece itself was designed from a block of clear glass and finished with sheets of hallmarked solid Sterling Silver and motifs of track and field events.
What makes Hatton Garden special to you?
Hatton Garden holds a special place to me because it is tied both to my professional and personal life. Ever since I was a boy I would come to the area to see my dad and visit the workshop. It was always exciting as there were always new designs being produced and, as a person interested in design, I loved seeing the new machines and technology that was used to create our awards. Now, working for the company Hatton Garden is my professional base. I love the uniqueness of the areas, its history and, of course, the brilliant food market on Leather Lane.
How do you see the future of the events industry?
Given the strange situation that we have found ourselves in, it is a difficult one to say. Quite rightly, people are afraid of large gatherings which has a huge impact on events. However, I think that, much like many other industries, we will see a shift to virtual events and social distancing. People will always need awards and trophies to celebrate successes and push forward with achievements.
DHG would like to thank Creative Awards for taking the time to sit down and chat with us. Once again, we wish them luck and prosperity for the future.
