Diamond earrings are a staple of every self respecting jewellery box. Earrings are an important accessory to any outfit and can be that final touch of glamour to uplift a daily outfit or the elaborate and stunning accessory for more formal occasions. Choosing diamond earrings can be difficult as, like with any jewellery purchase, it is important to understand what you are buying and how you intend to wear and use them. With the purchase of any diamond jewellery we believe that it is important to not only consider the style of the earrings you wish to purchase but also to understand about the factors that influence the star of every pair of diamond earrings – the diamonds!.
Choosing a diamond, as we have covered in our guide to the 4Cs, can be intimidating. Often, expectations, pricing and the diamond itself can make it hard to understand not only what you are buying but the associated costs. When buying a diamond, for any piece of jewellery, it is important to firstly have a budget in mind and also to understand what you are buying. Diamonds are graded by their size (carat weight), colour (the clearer the more expensive) clarity (how clear they are) and cut (the finish and shape of the diamond). Within all of these factors the higher the colour (graded from D-Z), the clearer the diamond (FL to VVS2) the bigger the size and the shape (the round brilliant cut being the most expensive) all influence the price of a diamond. Essentially, choosing the right diamond is a mixture of all of these factors – do you want a larger stone? Is colour not that important to you? Would a few inclusions and blemishes be ok? Do you want a certain shape or would you consider a different one? We always say go for what you like, ask questions and understand what influences the price of diamonds and what you are buying. Diamond earrings can take a wide array of shapes, colours and sizes and there is no wrong choice!
A big factor in choosing diamond earrings is understanding what occasions you will use them for and how they can fit in with your lifestyle. Stud earrings are the most popular earring choice. The dainty studs work very well with a day to day outfit (making it more glam) and certainly do not look out of place at a wonderful event when paired with an elegant outfit. Within stud earrings you can have an array of settings including pave (encrusting the mount in diamonds) and a halo (surrounding centre stone in a halo of smaller diamonds). Other more classic shapes may be better suited to going out such as drop earrings. Of course, drop earrings can be worn as part of daily attire but one must consider the use of the diamond earrings when choosing the design.
The style of the diamond earring – its design – is important to consider. Do you want to go for a more contemporary style? A classic shape? Or do you want a more contemporary feel? These factors influence not only the diamond within the earrings but the type of metal and the design of the mount.
Ultimately, the excitement of diamond earrings comes both from the wearing of them and the journey of purchasing them. We are here to support you in any choice that you make and guide you with our expertise and experience. After all, you can’t go wrong with diamond earrings!
